ATLANTA, Ga. – A color lithograph by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, a hand-painted porcelain figurine model by Professor Theodor Karner, and an oil on canvas landscape painting by Wolf Kahn are just a few expected top lots in Ahlers & Ogletree’s Autumn Fine Estates Auction slated for Sunday, Oct. 20, online and in the Atlanta gallery at 700 Miami Circle. The Toulouse-Lautrec (French 1864-1901) color lithograph is titled Confetti and from 1894. It was printed by Bella & de Malherbe (London and Paris). NEW HAMBURG, Ontario, Canada – A rare antique printing telegraph was the top mantique at a recent Miller & Miller auction. Invented by John Burry and made by The Stock Quotation Telegraph Company of New York, the stock ticker sold for $11,800. Complete with correct base and glass dome, it was patented in the 1890s and used in the early 1900s by Canadian National Telegraphs. Nearly 600 lots of manly memorabilia came up for bid at the auction. Categories included advertising, signs, automobilia, petroliana (including gas pumps, air meters, ephemera), coin-ops, militaria, railroadiana, aviation and sports memorabilia. Another auction highlight was a National Cash Register Company (Dayton, Ohio) Model 3 cash register, also from the 1890s, which brought $11,500. LYNBROOK, N.Y. – An exceedingly rare Nintendo Pokémon “Pikachu Illustrator” card could top $100,000 when it comes up for sale Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Weiss Auctions. An extraordinary example PSA graded in Mint 9 condition, the Pokémon card was given to the winners of the 1998 CoroCoro Comic Illustration contest in Japan and is one of only three known to exist. The card was created specifically for the contest. In 2014, a PSA Mint-9 Pikachu Illustrator card sold for $90,000, the highest amount realized for a Pokémon card. Q This musical knickknack was in my grandparents’ house ever since I was a little girl. It was passed on to me. At first I thought it was broken because it makes a clicking sound as it plays music, but then I realized when you hold it up to the light and look through the back window, it is a slide show of the story, Sleeping Beauty, and the clicking noise is the slide switching to the next picture. DALLAS – Nick Dawes, senior vice president for special collections at Heritage Auctions, has been named chairman and CEO of Salmagundi Art Club after serving on the board of the nonprofit club for several years. Salmagundi is the oldest artists’ club in New York and one of the oldest in the nation. You could be a Heisman Trophy winner even if you can’t run the length of a football field. Awarded to the most outstanding player in college football – and arguably the most famous individual honor given in all of sports – the Heisman Trophy won by University of Texas great Ricky Williams in 1998 is up for sale Oct. 17-18 at Heritage Auctions, Dallas. If you want to be a Heisman winner, however, it’ll cost you. Pre-auction estimates for the trophy: $500,000 and up. It’s easy to forget that most of the mischief and merrymaking during Halloween back in the day was done by adults and not children — specifically by adults who wanted to throw a festive party and those who wanted to attend one. As Mark B.
