In honor of 2019 being the Year of the Pig, at least according to the Chinese zodiac calendar, we’re spotlighting some of our favorite pigs in the antiques and collectibles world. The Year of the Pig, which extends through Jan. 24, 2020, is considered a positive one.Chinesenewyear.net explains that pigs are a symbol of wealth and their chubby faces and big ears denote good fortune. WHEN SANDI HOLDER was a little girl, her favorite toy was a brunette Bubblecut Barbie wearing a fashion outfit called Red Flare. The doll and clothing were magnificent. The memories sublime. LOUISVILLE, KY - Joe Ley Antiques, the colorful landmark in Louisville’s NuLu neighborhood, will auction off its products before closing its doors. The legendary business will sell a two-acre inventory of antiques and collectibles, which will include many items from the old Fontaine Ferry Amusement Park that was in Louisville from 1905 to 1969. The auction will occur online and in multiple phases, spanning roughly four months. The first phase of the auction will start before Thanksgiving. The founder and namesake for the business, Joe Ley, said it’s a daunting task to think about the next stages for his business, but he’s appreciated all customers who supported him through the years. SACRAMENTO, Calif. – An iconic bottle so rare that for years many doubted its existence is coming up for bid. The 150-year-old blue Cassin’s Grape Brandy Bitters bottle is being sold as part of the legendary Ken Fee collection of mostly Western bitters bottles, which will cross two online auctions by American Bottle Auctions on Friday, Nov. 29, and Jan. 24, 2020. “No one had seen Ken Fee’s collection of over 300 bottles in probably four decades,” said Jeff Wichmann of American Bottle Auctions. “It only came to light following his death last November, and I’ve been working with the family ever since to sort through it all.
