The latest indication that Apple, the world's most valuable company, is seeing sluggish demand for its iPhone 5 emerged in separate stories published Monday in the Japanese newspaper Nikkei and The Wall Street Journal. Officials at a Florida golf course said they found a food-snatching raccoon's hideout when he grabbed a cellphone equipped with GPS. The Okeeheelee Golf Course west of West Palm Beach said a raccoon nicknamed Rocky has been stealing food items from golfers for some time and was suspected to be behind the disappearance of a golfer's iPhone New Year's Day, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Thursday. The device's owner, Brian Acker, of Sebring, and course employees used the iPhone 4's locator program and heard its locator tone coming from the top of a 12-foot palm tree. Apple says reports in The Wall Street Journal and other publications of a possible lower-cost iPhone are incorrect. The Journal had quoted sources suggesting Apple could introduce a less-expensive iPhone before the end of the year. Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, said in an interview with a Chinese newspaper in Shanghai that inexpensive iPhones would "never be the future of Apple products," InformationWeek reported Friday.
