Apple says its latest update to the iOS 6 operating system fixes a security flaw that could allow access to an iPhone by circumventing the phone's lock screen. Version 6.1.3 of iOS for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch was released Tuesday, CNET reported. Using the previous vulnerability, a person could execute a series of operations that including making a emergency call that would result in the phone's lock screen being bypassed, allowing them to make calls and listen to voice mails. The update, which users can download to their phones for installation, "contains improvements and bug fixes," including the fix for "a bug that could allow someone to bypass the passcode and access the iPhone app," Apple said on its website. An Oklahoma woman whose TV news interview after a fire went viral is suing Apple after a mashup of her words was put to music and sold on iTunes. Sweet Brown, aka Kimberly Wilkens, was captured by KFOR-TV, Oklahoma City, ranting after her apartment caught fire. Her assertion that the smoke gave her bronchitis and, "Ain't nobody got time for thati" caught on and a Seattle radio station called to interview Wilkens. They set the interview to music and began selling it on iTunes. Court records show the song, "I got bronchitis/was for sale on iTunes from April 16 to June 29, The (Oklahoma City) Oklahoman said Sunday. It doesn't say how many times it was downoaded. PORTLAND -- The only state to provide laptops to public school students statewide said Thursday the contract it's negotiating for new devices can be used by other states if they're interested in following suit. Maine has zeroed in on five different laptops and tablets as it prepares to replace more than 35,000 Apple laptops in middle schools and about the same number in high schools this fall. The state expects to pay between $217 and $314 annually per unit depending on which device is chosen. This will be the third time devices have been upgraded since Maine began providing laptops to public middle schools students 11 years ago. A court in France has fined Apple for allowing employees in its French Apple stores to work late in violation of the country's labor laws. Apple was fined $13,000 for forcing employees of seven of the 15 Apple stores in France to work past 9 p.m., violating laws saying companies aren't allowed to require employees to work between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. unless the company provides social services or is part of maintaining the country’s economic activity, Slash Gear reported Wednesday. The court levied the fine because Apple allegedly required workers to stay at work for as much a 2 hours past the stores' 9 p.m. closing time to complete any unfinished work and organize for the following day.
