Dec. 04-EDMOND - An Apple device helped a school resource officer find an Edmond high school student's stolen $2,000 laptop, an incident report stated. During the morning of Nov. 13, a Santa Fe High School administrator called Edmond School Resource Officer Dack Pearson about a larceny, according to the report filed by Pearson. After morning orchestra rehearsal, the victim noticed his Apple MacBook Pro laptop was missing from where he had placed it beforehand, the report stated. Surveillance video did not show anyone acting suspiciously due to too much student movement, Pearson stated. On Nov. 13, Pearson received a call from the victim who said an Apple device had located his laptop in the area of 122nd and Rockwell, the location of Francis Turtle Technology Center, the report stated. Apple says the iPhone 5 smartphone can now be purchased without a carrier service contract, offering flexibility for users traveling outside the United States. "If you don't want a multiyear service contract, or if you prefer to use a local carrier when traveling abroad, the unlocked (no contract) iPhone is the best choice," Apple said in an online post. Apple said an unlocked phone "does not come with a micro-SIM card for iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, or a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5, so you'll need to get one from any supported GSM carrier worldwide." Dec. 05-STAMFORD - A former trader for the Stamford-based firm Rochdale Securities LLC was indicted Tuesday for allegations that he fraudulently purchased more than $1 billion worth of Apple stock, resulting in a $5 million loss to his firm. David Miller, 40, of Rockville Center, N.Y., purchased the stock during a "get-rich-quick scheme that backfired, causing massive losses for his employer," according to a news release from District of Connecticut U.S. Attorney David B. Fein. Miller was arraigned Tuesday at U.S. District Court in Bridgeport for one count of wire fraud. He was released after posting $300,000 bond. MIDNIGHT SPECIAL UNCLE KRACKER Uncle Kracker has been on a three-year hiatus (from his studio), much to the dismay of his fans. The country rocker left the spotlight after releasing Happy Hour, which contained the chart topping country hit, "Smile." Tekserve, New York's largest independent Apple retailer and consultancy, today announced that it is working with OTG, an award-winning airport food and beverage operator, to deploy iPad kiosks in restaurants at New York's John F. Kennedy International and LaGuardia Airports, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airport. Tekserve Business Solutions will help streamline OTG's iPad configuration and deployment to significantly reduce planning and implementation time of the project. The Tekserve team has already assisted in deploying 1,000 devices, with a goal of deploying more than 7,000 by the end of 2013.
