PALO ALTO, Calif. - A California man accused of breaking into Steve Jobs' house and stealing computers and the Apple Inc. Co-Founder's wallet has pleaded no contest to burglarizing homes across the San Francisco Bay area. Kariem McFarlin accepted a plea deal and was convicted Wednesday in Santa Clara County Superior Court on eight felony counts of residential burglary and one felony count of selling stolen property. McFarlin was initially charged in August with one count each of residential burglary and selling stolen property after Jobs' Palo Alto home was broken into in July. He apparently didn't realize he was in Jobs' house until he saw a letter addressed to the Silicon Valley icon, who died in October 2011. TED It's a tired formula, having been done many times before. The buddy flick has played out so often that we've seen every incarnation of it, old buddies, young buddies, guy and girl buddies. But until Ted, we had never seen a guy and teddy bear buddy film. A lonely boy receives a teddy bear for Christmas and wishes on a falling star that "Teddy" would come to life and be his best friend. All of you Apple media fans rejoice, we may finally see the iTunes 11 update that we have all been anxiously awaiting for the past few months. The update was supposed to arrive a couple of months ago, but was mysteriously delayed, and then all talks about the program seemingly vanished from the web. Thanks to an email though, we may see the update and redesign in the "next few days." The email comes from the German music distribution service, Feiyer. The email, which you can see a screenshot of above, was sent out to all publishers and artists who use (and will use) Feiyer as a distribution platform. Siri already has an impressive language capacity. In fact, Apple's creation can currently speak fluently in English (including Australia, United Kingdom, Canada, and United States variants), Japanese, Italian (Italy and Switzerland variants), Korean, French (France, Canada, and Switzerland variants), Spanish (United States, Spain, and Mexico variants), German (Germany and Switzerland variants), and Chinese (Mandarin, Taiwan-Mandarin, and Cantonese variants). Microsoft has been very aggressive lately with CEO Steve Ballmer stating numerous times that the company wanted to battle Apple for supremacy in the living room. Have you ever wondered about Apple's humble beginnings? Everyone knows about Steve Jobs and Steve "The Woz" Wozniak beginning the company, but what about the computers themselves? A member of the Technologizer team, Harry McCracken, has apparently unearthed some pretty crazy photographs. The photos in question were taken by Paul Terrell and show what appears to be the first personal computer that Apple ever brought to market, or sold to the general public. But how exactly did Terrel end up with these photos? It turns out he owned a retail space called the Byte Shop back in 1976. Thirty years ago a woman was teaching me the profession of computer typesetting. I was a young adult and thinking of changing "what I wanted to be when I grew up." Being a computer typesetter seemed a lot more fun at that time than teaching English. While she oddly admitted that it was an occupation with a high suicide rate, she also said it was a profession that would always be in need. She reasoned that no matter what happened with computers, people were always going to read. Those words stuck with me. COASTER CRAZY I have been in love with the Roller Coaster Tycoon series since it graced store shelves. If you haven't had a chance to play any of the titles in the series (I've completely forgotten how many there are), I would highly recommend tracking them down (had, track, Roller Coaster humor). AT&T jumped to the head of the line in the smartphone speed competition yesterday, rolling out the fastest wireless technology available in Columbus and other Ohio markets. The 4G rollout "is all about keeping AT&T competitive with Verizon,” said technology analyst Jeff Kagan. "Verizon and AT&T are the two heavy hitters when it comes to these high-speed networks." Before the rollout, AT&T was "about a year behind Verizon," said Francis Sideco, senior principal analyst for wireless at IHS iSuppli, a technology market-research firm. Both AT&T and Verizon are rushing to serve the heavy hitters in the smartphone market.
