This being the May issue, perhaps at last we can look forward to some spring warmth and sunshine and then to at least a half-decent summer. I don’t reckon much to the supposed joys of winter – ie coldness, darkness and wetness, in any combination – and most of the places I’d like to visit have gone into hibernation and there’s nowhere much to travel to.
However, last year, as autumn began to take shape, I ventured to London for the first time in a few years. As it was with an organised party to attend a concert, we travelled by coach and so southwards we headed on the A1. Now the A1 is not the most attention-grabbing of trunk roads, lacking in compelling interest in rather the same way…
