We cover as much ground as possible in this magazine when it comes to styles of music, and we feature up-and-coming bassists as much as megastars. Welcome back to my new series on advanced slap bass techniques. Over the past two issues we’ve been examining the use of fretting hand slaps, initially from open strings, then from fretted notes. We’re going to move on to a new technique in this instalment, but one that is a natural extension of the fretting hand slap—the ‘machine gun triplet’. Though they are perfectly safe in the right hands, they should nevertheless be used with extreme care!
