By the time you’ve read this, a lot would have happened in the Australian coffee world. A new Australian Barista Champion crowned, new RASV Australian Coffee Roasting Champion awarded, and coffee lovers would have experienced the colour and fun of the sixth edition of the Melbourne International Coffee Expo. Before the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) kicked off, expert coffee judges took over the Melbourne Showgrounds from 8 to 10 March for the annual Australian International Coffee Awards (AICA) judging. Head Judge Melissa Caia of William Angliss Institute says this year’s 820 coffee entries attracted a high intake of international applicants, with coffees received from the United Kingdom, United States, Indonesia, and China. “The international reach of the awards grows year on year, which indicates that international roasters value and respect Australia’s high standards for coffee quality, that they appreciate our style of coffee, and value the opinions of our industry professionals,” Melissa says. Host Milano’s 40th edition in 2017 has been announced as the “place to be” to celebrate coffee at FieraMilano Rho in Italy from 20 to 24 October. For five days, the biannual event celebrates three core segments of the Hospitality, restaurant and catering (Ho.Re.Ca) industry – Food Service Equipment with Bread, Pizza and Pasta; Coffee/Tea with Coffee and Vending Machines, Bars and Gelato/Pastry; Furnishings and Tableware. About 1158 companies have reserved their involvement in the show, with 42 per cent of exhibitors each coming from 44 different countries.
