In summer, flocks of migratory birds from a wide variety of species inhabit the Yellow River Estuary in Dongying, Shandong Province. The estuary was recently included on the World Heritage List by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) along with four other migratory bird sanctuaries around the Yellow Sea-Bohai Gulf on China’s eastern coast.
The sanctuaries were added to the list during the 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, held in New Delhi, India, from July 21 to 31.
