WHILE MANY CYCLISTS GET CAUGHT UP DEBATING THE LIGHTEST equipment, hardest routes, and fastest times, Marley Blonsky, cofounder of the nonprofit All Bodies on Bikes, wants people to simply find joy in their riding. “As long as their bike is safe and working, that’s all that matters,” Blonsky says.
But when Blonsky started riding eight years ago, she discovered it was not so simple. Cycling has barriers to entry for riders with bigger bodies: Bike-weight limits are often too low, and many apparel companies don’t offer extended sizing. She didn’t see herself represented in the pages of magazines, had trouble finding clothes that fit, and was breaking spokes on her bicycles.
