Leaders are rare, great leaders even more so. Tim Hancock, Bert Gaston and Carolyn Hughes all are names in the American Bladesmith Society who meet the latter criterion, and their leadership is a major reason why all three were inducted into the ABS Hall Of Fame. Co-sponsored by the Historic Arkansas Museum and the ABS, the 25th anniversary induction ceremony of the ABS Hall of Fame was held Aug. 7 in Little Rock, Arkansas. The latest factory knives populate this issue’s cover, with the featured pieces being the Sandrin TCK 2.0, the Medford Knife & Tool Proxima and the Puma XP Pig Sticker Commando Stag. A straight-edge blade of polyhedral tungsten carbide highlights the Sandrin TCK 2.0. At a Rockwell hardness of 71 HRC, the material will hold a great edge but is subject to chipping, though Sandrin’s version has been engineered to reduce brittleness and add flexibility.
