The 118-metre superyacht, codenamed Project Celerius, hit the water for the first time in December and had her masts stepped shortly after. Victorious result The crew of 85-metre Victorious has been awarded a Certificate of Merit by the head of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Fort-de-France, Martinique, after rescuing five people in distress during an 18-hour search and rescue mission. Victorious was alerted that a catamaran had lost contact with land 23 hours before. It had capsized 500 nautical miles from shore, in the North Atlantic. Victorious changed course from her planned charter pick-up and searched the area for several hours before locating five people in a lifeboat just after 5am on December 15. Yachts eat up the nautical miles The yacht fleet is travelling further than ever before, according to the latest data from BOATPro. In 2022, the 10 most adventurous yachts travelled a combined distance of 271,309 nautical miles. The 68.3-metre DSSV Pressure Drop travelled the furthest, outpacing the next most-travelled yacht of 2022 by more than 7,000 nautical miles. During this time she was owned by legendary explorer Victor Vescovo, who took her on a cross-Pacific expedidon to Japan, Chile and the Philippines. Chase boats in events such as the America’s Cup are really important. Our race boats don’t have engines, so we rely on chase boats to get us on and off the dock and manoeuvre us into safe places where we hoist and load the sails. They also have to carry loads of equipment, shore crew, designers, mechanics, coaches, physios, food and water - all essential for our onwater operations. The chase boats cover hundreds of track miles in a testing session and at high speed. Its a big job. In the initial stages of the America’s Cup campaign, they are also used for tow-testing, so they have to be powerful, too.
