EPSON RAMPS UP ECOTANK PRINTER POSITIVES AS PART OF a global effort to be pro-active about climate change issues, Epson has launched a new range of EcoTank inkjet printers. Epson is promoting the lower energy requirements of inkjet printers in general (compared to laser-type models) and the reduced wastage associated with the EcoTank printers in particular. Epson’s EcoTank printers use refillable ink reservoirs rather than disposable cartridges, and the company has developed the technology to now include photo printer models. While the printers themselves are more expensive to purchase initially, the long-term savings on ink costs are significant. The new EcoTank Photo ET-8500 and ET-8550 use a six-colour ink set and can print up to 2,300 postcard-size photo prints or 6,200 colour document pages on one set of ink bottles.…

The 56th edition of the competition attracted over 49,000 entries from photographers, both amateurs and professionals, in 86 countries. The Wildlife Photographer Of The Year competition has been developed and produced by the Natural History Museum, London. The Photographer Alessandra Meniconzi is a Swiss photographer who specialises in capturing the ancient heritage, customs, spirituality, and daily life of indigenous peoples who are strongly connected to nature and whose traditional cultures are at risk of vanishing. These assignments often take her to remote and wild locations, and she has won a number of major awards including the 2018 National Geographic Photographer Of The Year. he annual gathering of TIPA editors – somewhere in the world – was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the year. A chance to get together with a bunch of like-minded people doing the same job – a fairly specialised one it has to be said – and so facing the same challenges, issues and concerns. It was also a chance to take the pulse of the photography business globally and also that of magazine publishing around the world… both having undergone significant changes over the last decade or so. I, for one, always found these gatherings immensely valuable – validating some ideas and opinions, modifying others and, in some cases, perhaps prompting a rethink. Hobart-based photographer Stu Gibson has won the Nikon Surf Photo Of The Year award for 2021 with his stunning image of Tyler Hollmer Cross surfing at Shipstern Bluff in southern Tasmania. Stu’s prize is a Nikon Z 6II full-frame mirrorless camera paired with the Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/4.0 S zoom lens. The Nikon Surf Video Of The Year award was won by Spencer Frost, who also receives a Z 6II with a 24-70mm zoom. Frost’s winning film is titled A Corner Of The Earth and is about extreme surfing in subzero conditions around the coast of Iceland with pro surfer Fraser Dovell.
