Tributes are pouring in for radio legend and “Voice of e.tv” Bongani Njoli. Njoli, from Langa, passed away at around 11am on Sunday from health issues. The 52-year-old enjoyed brief stints at radio stations including UCT Radio, Good HopeFM, Heart 104.9fm and Magic 828 AM. But he was best known for being the voice of e.tv’s promotions. Who can forget that famous voice saying: “Be free, only on e” and “Friday action night” among other catchphrases? A forty-YEAR-OLD man was arrested yesterday when he handed himself over to the Lingelethu police after the fatal stabbing of an SAPS captain. Police spokesperson, Zinzi Hani, said police were alerted to the stabbing of Siphumeza Lusasa, 37, of the Muizenberg SAPS Support Services, at Spine Road behind the Lingelethu police station in Khayelitsha, at about 9.40pm on January 21. “It is reported that Lusasa was on standby duties at the time of the incident. An EXTENSIVE search and investigation is continuing into the mystery of a woman who is suspected to have gone into the water at Camps Bay beach on Saturday evening, leaving all her belongings behind, and never returned. The mystery woman was seen by passers-by going into the water but not coming out. She left behind a beach towel, a dress, a hat, and a bag with personal belongings which contained nothing that identified her. The National Sea Rescue Institute’s (NSRI) Bakoven station commander Luke van Riet said they were called to the beach on Saturday at around 11pm to assist the police in a search for the woman. One can look at the recurring racist incidents such as the white woman who said that black men have to be banned and killed and that black women should have their uteruses cut out. The trial of the sex trafficking trio, Edward Ayuk, his wife Leandre, and his brother, Yannick, continues in the Western Cape High Court. The trial took an unprecedented turn when another State witness, Monday Daniels, testified that he knew nothing about the Ayuks’ dealings or that he ever participated in the trade of “sex for drugs”. It is alleged that the trio benefited financially from the service of women they moved to the city, and took the money they made from selling themselves to unknown men. The Committee for the Section 194 Inquiry into Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s fitness to hold office will today meet for the first time this year before hearings expected to resume as scheduled on January 30. SOUTH Africa’s fuel prices are heading in the wrong direction once again, with the latest data from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) pointing to increases for both petrol and diesel from the beginning of February. However, as international oil prices have been volatile this month, it’s difficult to predict just how big these increases will be. The latest daily snapshot from the CEF is pointing to hikes of around 25c for 95 unleaded petrol and 32c for 93 ULP. However, if current trends persist until the end of this week, we could be looking at increases closer to 70c. Currently looking set for a 5c increase is 500ppm diesel, but that figure is growing by the day and could still climb to around 40c. Keep in mind however that official…

A massive fire above Hughenden in Hout Bay late on Sunday night was contained by the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP), NCC Wildfires, City Fire and Rescue as well as Volunteer Wildfire Services’ crews. The fire was contained in the early hours of yesterday morning with crews still remaining on the scene to deal with hotspots and intermittent flare-ups. The area will be assessed again today to see if the resources were still needed.
