THE Tygerberg Children’s Choir (TCC) has made South Africa and the continent proud by winning big at the Hull International Choir Competition 2023. The choir was the only one from South Africa and Africa participating in the competition held from April 27 to May 1 in the UK. As of December last year, the TCC ranked fourth in the Interkultur World ranking for choirs – with the Stellenbosch University choir in the number one spot. They were also raked fourth in the Children’s and Youth Choirs category and third in the Sacred Music and Music of the Religions category. With water scarcity remaining a challenge, 30 young aspiring water champions from across the Province yesterday completed the virtual Kusini Water Champions boot camp. The aspiring champs gained technical water skills and training to help them set up and eventually run their own water kiosks in their communities. Police swarmed the scene near Jakes Gerwel Drive shortly before 10am as the blue BMW belonging to Shengteng Chen, 42, was abandoned on the roadside. THE implementation of the much-talked-about and long-awaited Remote Working Visa is within reach after a commitment from the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) to finalise the remaining legal processes by the end of next month. Acting deputy director-general – Immigration, Nischal Jaynarayan, told the legislature’s Standing Committee on Finance, Economic Opportunities and Tourism that the state Law Adviser approval process was under way. The remaining South Africans who were stuck in Sudan during the deadly power struggle of the past almost three weeks are expected to land at Cape Town International Airport this afternoon. The group of 22 nationals had chosen to evacuate Sudan with the help of their employer, but ran into difficulties and were stranded on a cargo ship in Egypt. The programme incentivises private sector tourism businesses, especially small to medium businesses, by reducing the cost of installing energy and water-saving measures at their tourism establishments.
