Two families from the Eastern Cape died at the weekend in separate incidents when their shacks caught alight. Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the fires occurred in Ndevana and Algoa Park. The first incident occurred on Friday morning when a 40-year-old woman and her three children died as their shack burned down in Tshabo, Ndevana. The three children, two girls and a boy, were aged between three and 10. Naidu said neighbours had tried to extinguish the fire, but the roaring flames were too intense. “Names will be released once the next of kin have been informed,” Naidu said. A MAN was shot dead and three others wounded, one an 8-year-old, during a suspected robbery in Goodwood. The four victims were attacked on the corner of Voortrekker Road and Hamilton Street. Unidentified shooters fled on foot and have been at large since Thursday night. A man recently released from jail has been killed just three weeks after the Hanover Park gangsters made peace with each other. Sulaiman Isaacs, also known as Boytjie, was gunned down in Lugano Court on Saturday. He had been a free man for about two weeks as the murder charge he faced was provisionally withdrawn. The motive for the attack was unclear. About nine hours after the killing, a woman and a man were shot and killed in Sundown Walk. MUSLIM Judicial Council (MJC) president Shaykh Irafaan Abrahams is seeking the Western Cape High Court’s hand to prevent the religious authority body from conducting an early AGM later this month, to elect a new Executive Committee (Exco). In the application lodged by Abrahams against the MJC South Africa, he is seeking to interdict to restrain the MJC from proceeding with elections for the next president.
