The September 25 floods left an indelible imprint on Franschhoek. The road leading to the Pigcasso and the Animal Sanctuary was largely washed away, but the sanctuary was left largely unscathed, and the animals unharmed.
Last weekend people enjoyed the conversation between Brandon de Kock and Joanne Lefson at the launch of her second book, Pigcasso, the Painting Pig that saved a Sanctuary.
It was held in the “ark”, as the building is affectionately referred to, and after the floods, not without irony.
De Kock, formerly the editor of a golfing magazine, met Lefson in 2005, then a springbok golfer. He was looking for a woman’s voice for the magazine, and she joined the editorial board. She left and in 2016, she started up the sanctuary in Franschhoek.
