Station commander Colonel Dawood Laing said officers were taking a no-nonsense approach to Guy Fawkes celebrations this year. A young beekeeper from the West Coast has clinched a top award at one of the world’s leading honey shows. Dawid Rooifontein from St Helena Bay came first in the international honey category at the UK’s National Honey Show on October 27 and 28. His winning honey was a light, perfumed orange honey, produced by his bees in orchards in the Citrusdal area. It’s the first time South African beekeepers – all from the Western Cape – have taken part in this top beekeeping competition, which celebrated its centenary this year. PSYCHIATRISTS have stated that alleged Parliament arsonist Zandile Christmas Mafe suffers from schizophrenia and is unable to understand what he did when he set the National Assembly ablaze. This was revealed in the Western Cape High Court yesterday at a special inquiry called amid dramatic court appearances by the Khayelitsha man who was bust after the conflagration. The Minister of Home Affairs, Aaron Motsoaledi, and Director-General Livhuwani Makhode have agreed to pay part of the legal costs for Lawyers for Human Rights from their own pockets. This comes after the Constitutional Court on Monday slapped both Motsoaledi and Makhode with personal cost orders in the case involving the rights of undocumented immigrants. The decision follows Motsoaledi and his department’s failure to revise the Immigration Act in the past six years.
