A KEY witness who was sitting in the front passenger seat of the taxi that caused the deaths of two Mitchells Plain sisters has come forward to share his statement about the fateful day. Nurah, 2, and Nishaat Thomas, 6, lost their lives in March after a young and unlicensed taxi driver jumped a red traffic light on the corner of Merrydale and Wespoort Drive in Portlands, Mitchells Plain, and slammed into their father’s car. Nishaat was flung out of the car and died on impact. Her younger sister Nurah died hours later in hospital. He was recently accused of being instrumental in terminating the membership of three councillors in the City of Cape Town for allegedly failing to pay their party’s contributions and to comply with the party’s constitutional obligations. The City has recorded 201 incidents of vandalism and illegal connections, with Mitchells Plain and Philippi being identified as hot spots. Mayco member for energy Councillor Beverley van Reenen said the records were for the third quarter. “The Mitchells Plain/Philippi district was the worst-affected district, with 85 recorded incidents. Double Edged is certainly that, and Marina Auer keeps the pace going throughout with the added impetus (for me) of a medical slant. The bail hearings of three men accused of gunning down 6-year-old Zakariyah Noble from Hanover Park have been put on hold due to the diphtheria outbreak at Pollsmoor Prison. Relatives of the 6-year-old were at the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Friday where they were informed the matter would be postponed as Riaan Matthews, Keanan America and Chandler Harper were not brought to court. The Grade R learner from Turfhall Primary School was shot in the chest while walking with his uncle and cousins in Surwood Walk. The mother of slain Taireece Williams has been dealt another blow after her youngest son had bricks thrown at his head in an eerily similar way as his brother, after thugs allegedly wanted to rob him. Jaden Van Wyk, 13, is now in a critical condition in hospital after his skull fractured during the botched robbery. The incident in Mitchells Plain on Saturday, comes less than a month after the men accused of murdering his older brother, Taireece, learnt that their case had been provisionally withdrawn in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court to allow for further investigation.
