IT HAS been nearly two months since 6-year-old Joshlin Smith from Saldanha Bay disappeared, yet her school community remained hopeful she would return. Joshlin disappeared on February 19, and was last seen at around 5pm, close to her home in Diazville. She is a Grade 1 learner at Diazville Primary School. Now, at the end of the first term, learners and the school let everyone know they were still waiting for their classmate. A judge has approved actress Christine Quinn’s request for a temporary restraining order against Christian Dumontet and ruled that he must vacate their Hollywood home. Employment and Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi has announced a R23.8 billion employment plan designed to create 704 000 job opportunities across the country. Briefing the media yesterday, Nxesi said the UIF–Labour Activation Programme would provide opportunities that run between 12 and 36 months. THE African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) demonstrated at the legislature in Wale Street yesterday, opposing the Basic Education Laws Amendment (Bela) Bill. The protest, with around 100 people, was held ahead of public hearings into the bill. Other political parties who have opposed the adoption of the bill in its current form include the DA and the Freedom Front Plus. The bill aims to amend the South African Schools Act of 1996 and the Employment of Educators Act of 1998 to align them with developments in education. A PINELANDS family have been reunited with their canine companion after nearly two gruelling weeks of searching. Vanessa Duff, her husband and two children were travelling from Cape Town to Nature’s Valley for a holiday when their vehicle was hit by another car at around 4am outside Grabouw on the N2 on March 21. Their double cab bakkie with a canopy flipped due to the impact and the canopy was ripped off. The family’s two dogs were in the back of the vehicle.
