A PUMP failure at the Green Point outfall has resulted in emergency discharge into the ocean. The incident came just weeks after a sewage pump failure in Camps Bay resulted in the same outcome, sparking concern among residents over the water quality. Mayco member for water and sanitation, Zahid Badroodien, said while two pumps were removed for maintenance on Wednesday, two other pumps, which returned from maintenance, had failed, leaving only one of six pumps operational. “Unfortunately, due to the failure of these pumps, an emergency discharge into the ocean was unavoidable. This discharge occurred during peak operating hours, as the remaining pumps could not handle the incoming volumes,” said Badroodien. MYSTERY surrounds the death of an Eastern Cape man who was gunned down, allegedly by gangsters, in Bonteheuwel on Saturday morning. Ward councillor Angus McKenzie said police were called to the scene after residents approached him with information about the shooting. “At just after 8am, two known gangsters in the R Block of Bonteheuwel were alleged to have murdered a driver of a silver VW Polo. “I was immediately provided with the description and location of the two individuals and was able to immediately relay this information to our tip-off service.” McKenzie said police were immediately on the scene in Redberry Street, where they found the driver had been shot in the neck. THE DA is seeking intervention from President Cyril Ramaphosa, as leader of the ANC, after the DA’s Cilliers Brink was removed from his position as the executive mayor of Tshwane during a council session at Tshwane House last week. THE Nyanga Hiking Club celebrated the start of the spring hiking season this weekend after a winter hiatus. The club celebrates its fourth anniversary this year, since its inception in 2020 by founder and co-ordinator Dani Saporetti. The initiative, in collaboration with local members of the Nyanga community, aims to teach the transformational power of nature within Nyanga and surrounding township areas. Since 2020, the club has organised monthly hikes that provide children with essential amenities, snacks and transportation, all at no cost to families. DURING its centenary celebration, the Spaanschemat River Road Muslim Cemetery in Constantia officially launched its research project, aiming to collect and document the rich history and heritage of the Muslim community in the area.
