PRESENTED BY Now in its 16th year Australasia’s Top Emerging Photographers, presented by Fujifilm, showcases the very best emerging photographic talent across Australasia. The awards recognise and acknowledge talented photographers in the early stages of their careers and those simply working towards being the very best photographers they can be. All up, photographers submitted 1,500-plus entries and more than 4,150 individual images. An overwhelming 97% of entries came from Australia with just 3% entered from New Zealand. The four most popular categories were Single Shot, Landscape, Animal and Portrait. HOW THE COMPETITION WORKS Photographers who have less than four years’ full-time professional photography experience, including amateurs, are able to submit portfolios across any of the nine categories. She has been working in tourism and diving since 2014, primarily as a dive instructor. She is a self-taught photographer and now works primarily in ocean, travel and adventure photography. “During a trip to the Maldives last year, we had the chance to encounter tawny nurse sharks up close on a night dive,” Brooke says. “I wanted to capture the elegant movements of the sharks as they danced together under the lights of my strobes.
