For days, Dean was groggy from all the drugs in his system.
‘Am I going to die?’ he kept worrying. ‘No, you’re going to be fine,’ I soothed.
Scans showed that, just moments before the crash, Dean suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.
At first, this didn’t make any sense.
After all, Dean was just 31, and perfectly healthy.
Doctors ran tests but found Dean’s heart was fine, said maybe we’d never get an answer.
Still, to be safe, they recommended he had an internal defibrillator fitted.
This would shock him back to life if his heart ever stopped beating again.
