On 23 August last year, Sondra Better’s nearest and dearest gathered in court in West Palm Beach, Florida. It took the jury about an hour to deliberate. Returning to the courtroom, the verdict was read out. Todd Barket was found guilty of first-degree murder. He was also found guilty of robbery with a weapon. The jury didn’t believe his weak defence and, as Barket sat with his head in his hands, the judge immediately sentenced him to life in prison with no chance of release.
