Gliding along the water, I rowed back towards the landing bay. Out with a friend, both of us in single boats.
Had started rowing a year earlier, taking up the sport while studying at university, wanting to try something new.
Meant lots of training, six times a week, 6am starts.
But I loved it!
That morning in December 2020 was cold, rainy, but still safe to row.
But as I approached the landing bay, in shallow water, I got distracted, turning my head to talk to a friend standing on the dock.
Losing my balance, I capsized, the boat tipping over as I tumbled in.
No big deal.
We'd practised what to do if we ever fell in, and it'd happened before.
