SCREEN TRIMS GETTING THE CORNERS RIGHT Screen rubbers always have been a staple product at East Kent Trim — but getting the corner mouldings accurate is a major part of the task. It takes an enormous investment in tooling since every car has a different shape, and fulfilling the demand for the bits that go with each rubber is also a major part of the equation, specifically the chrome inserts and trim corners. Often missing, originals command a high price but that all changed last year when East Kent Trim tooled up to reproduce those difficult items.The alloy ones shown are for the Escort Mk1 and Cortina Mk3, while the shiny chrome pieces are a bigger profile and are actually pressed brass, then chromed — they do look spot on!…

QUERY OF THE MONTH SPEEDO READING Q I’ve fitted my Escort with a Zetec and a Type-9 five-speed gearbox (from an H-reg Granada) and I’m having problems with the speedo drive. It’s out of calibration with my electronic Racetech dash gauge. The drive from the gearbox is the three-wire encoder type, which produces a series of pulses per revolution. My problem is that I don’t have enough and so my speedo’s reading under by about 20 mph. Do you know if Ford produced the gearbox encoder with a variety of pulse outputs? With this in mind, we’ve given you two project ideas with the sunshine very much in mind this issue, kicking off with the natty Mk4 Escort camper van! Taking both the Nimbus and Dormobile versions of the Mk1 van as our inspiration, we gone through the roof — literally — to create an extendable high-top, taking a glass fibre mould of the roof and extending it a bit.
