Know this AN ANGEL ON YOUR SHOULDER For anyone that drives, getting a speeding ticket or being hit by an uninsured driver is a very real fear. Thankfully, Road Angel has the answer to worry-free motoring, speed awareness and increased safety. Who wants a speeding ticket? No-one, obviously, but the stats from the Department for Transport (DfT) suggest that Britain’s drivers are pretty careless about notching one up. Last year the DfT monitored 446.6million journeys and discovered that over half of those exceeded the speed limit. 60 YEARS OF THE Anglia Celebrating the design icon that helped shape the 1960s and beyond The Anglia 105E was the shock of the new when it arrived in 1959. Gone was the roundness of the previous 100E and in came razor-sharp lines, fins and, of course, that reverse-angle rear window. This was a slice of the American dream — only in a smaller size. The 105E quickly became a darling of the tuning world thanks to its new and easily-improved 997cc Pre-Crossflow engine and predictable handling. It gave the Mini a tough time on track and rally stages, helping to boost its profile and sales to more than 1 million by the time it bowed out in 1967 to make way for the Escort — but that’s another story.…

BIRTH OF THE 105E A NEW ANGLE Launched in 1959, Ford took a big risk with the 105E — one that set its course for success in the Sixties. Way back, in 1956, Ford-UK realised that it would have to tackle a complete upheaval in its small car range. Although the well-established 100E models were selling well, they were still inflicted with a sidevalve engine and three-speed gearbox whose roots stretched back into the 1930s. Their major rivals — Austin, Morris and Standard — were all more advanced than this, and in Europe new cars like the Fiat 600 and the Renault 4CV made them look positively out-dated. The answer is not totally correct. As a previous owner of both Mk1 and Mk2 Escort Estates (at the same time for a while ), I came across this problem.
