When it comes to describing ‘Big Healeys’, whichever model, there are a plethora of adjectives to choose from: powerful, indomitable, masculine, muscular and, above all, beautiful.
The first of the breed, the Healey 100 made its debut in prototype form at the 1952 Earls Court Motor Show. To put it mildly, it was a sensation and one of many smitten by this new arrival was BMC boss Leonard Lord. So much so, a deal was promptly struck whereby Austin would produce the car and it would be called the Austin-Healey 100, with Donald Healey receiving a royalty on each one sold.
