Until the late 1930s, Saundersfoot was primarily a mining community. Unlike neighbouring Tenby, which has been a popular tourist destination since Victorian times, tourism didn’t arrive at this Pembrokeshire village until much later. It has taken a while to mature. Alison Rowe’s life changed dramatically when she moved to Ilfracombe from south east London in 2016 and she certainly hasn’t looked back. When Alison and her husband, Martin, decided to overhaul their lives they chose Ilfracombe, after falling in love with the town while house-sitting for her brother. Artist Alison reveals: “Having made the decision that Ilfracombe was going to be our home, my brother, who had a real desire to do a Grand Designs type of build, then found us a house in a fantastic position that was ideal for redevelopment. Several years ago, interior designer and vintage dealer Alison Payge and her daughter Coco Royle decided to pool their creative talents to establish a cornucopia of small, affordable delights – everything from vintage necklaces to tumble stones to Lindy Bop repro clothing. For three years they ran their shop in trendy Gorleston-on-Sea, near Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, but in June ’24 relocated to the Suffolk coast – namely London Road South in Lowestoft – to join a growing crowd of small independent shops situated right by the seafront, promenade and two traditional piers. It’s a much lamented fact, that the seasons start earlier each year. So even though Christmas still surrounds us, it’s hard not to have at least half an eye on the spring trends that are already trickling in. So what does 2025 have in store? COLOURS Trending colours are there as a guide – helping interiors and accessory designers create new matching looks. Pantone have become the kings of colour, these graphic design giants have long offered us a Colour of the Year and interiors fans wait with bated breath.
