Caused by hormonal imbalances that—when untreated—raise your risk for infertility, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and depression, PCOS doesn't always give women polycystic ovaries. And ovarian cysts alone aren't enough to diagnosis it. Instead, PCOS may cause irregular periods, acne, weight gain, and a hairy face or body.
