Right in the heart of Slippery Rock Creek Gorge is a state park perfectly placed for all to enjoy. McConnells Mill, which is about an hour north of Pittsburgh, draws in nature lovers who want to escape the city limits to the serene Pennsylvania countryside.
Designated a National Natural Landmark, McConnells Mill owes its status to the surrounding old growth forest and the gorge created by the draining of glacial lakes thousands of years ago. The park’s 2,546 acres contain streams full of fish, waterfalls, fishing, hiking trails, scenic overlooks and whitewater rafting. McConnells Mill is an outdoor enthusiast’s playground, but the park truly has something to offer everyone.
