Using machine embroidery quilting designs, you can create textured fabric without any piecing, which is a great way to show off the quilting motifs in your embroidery library. Software is helpful for planning the layout; if you don't have software, print several templates of the chosen quilt designs and place designs accordingly. The basic steps are quite simple. Cut the fabric about 4“ larger than needed, spray-baste the batting to the quilt top wrong side, and then place the fabric layers in the hoop to quilt. Once texturizing is completed, cut out the pattern pieces and finish the project. THREAD SELECTION Thread choice determines how the quilt lines appear. Since starting my textile repair business in 2018, I hear one thing from clients almost weekly: “I don't know if this is fixable.” Very occasionally they pull out an item that is absolutely in shreds and hope that I can make it new again. But most of the time the issue is very fixable! It just won't look exactly like it did before. I like to think of this type of mending as the item evolving with time. The item won't be the same as before, but that doesn't mean we need to throw it away. I use a lot of different techniques for visible and invisible mending. Overalls are also a great garment that can transition from the fall months right into winter, depending on what you wear them over. Here are a couple great patterns and an embroidery design to spark some me-made garment inspiration. Customizing denim jeans and jackets with embroidery produces an instant unique, high-end look. Follow these steps for machine embroidery success. • Wash and dry your denim fabric or garment well to prevent any later shrinkage. • Pick a fairly dense design to ensure that the stitching shows up on the denim background. • Linework designs may be too thin and lose impact on a variegated denim fabric. • Mediumweight cut-away stabilizer is best for denim embroidery, given denim's ability to stretch and shift. • If needed, take apart jean or jacket seams for access to embroidery areas, then restitch the seams later along the original seam lines.…

FABRIC COLOR PALETTE This look is all about drama, with a little classic thrown in for good measure. Sheer black chiffon, voile, or even silk embroidered with a simple floral design. PLANNING FOR SHEER EMBROIDERY When embroidering for a garment design, it's easiest to choose a simple design that uses basic garment shapes rather than multiple seams. This is especially true of sheer garments. When purchasing fabric for your project, be generous in your yardage estimate. It's a good idea to allow yourself a little extra planning space (or in case of an “oops”). For easiest stitching, chalk the basic outline of each pattern piece and then cut loosely around the chalked outline. Although you can cut the design ahead of time, the slight drawing in of the fabric (compensation) caused by embroidering may mean that your garment pieces aren't perfectly shaped after embroidery. That's why you should leave some extra space outside the actual garment cutting lines. The vertical center…
