A number of different suggestions for livening up pro cycling have been made over the years, and almost always ignored. Cycling does not implement change for its own sake. Or for the sake of logic, commercial reality, or even the benefit of the riders and fans.
Suggestions have included: better women’s races, fewer drugs, less time trialling, banning power meters, banning team radios, more climbing, less climbing, smaller teams, cheaper teams, more Colombians and, of course, banning any team managed by Sir Dave Brailsford.
