With the Women’s WorldTour growing quickly, and no under-23 category at present, Canyon-SRAM are among the teams putting an onus on developing their own talents. Last year, the German team launched its own ‘Generation’ squad, giving riders from underrepresented nations the chance to turn pro.
This year, the team has eight riders, including two Rwandans, a Namibian and a Jamaican, recruited primarily from results at their respective Continental Championships. Not all riders have access to power data tools, the squad’s sports director, Adam Szabó, explains, “but if they have any kind of numbers, or a training diary, that helps massively.”
