Some time ago I was riding home through West Wickham when I passed three cyclists, side-by-side, with the outer two holding each other’s arms behind the central rider. As I passed they called, “Hey, mate, do you have a chain tool?” The middle rider had no chain.
I had one at home which was just a few hundred yards from where we were. I led them there, got out the workstand, and, while one of them put the bike in place, hunted out the chain tool. “Do you know how to use one?” I asked.
“Yes, I’m OK with this,” he replied.
