This past September, Edge Products hosted their 20th straight year of Weekend on the Edge out of their hometown of Ogden, UT For more than twenty years, Edge has been developing and producing some of the most popular tuning and monitoring products on the market for diesel trucks and every year they host their version of a customer appreciation event at the local fairgrounds to bring together the local diesel crowd for some old fashioned diesel fun. Steve Burris owned a 6.0L once. Back in ’05, he bought a brand-new Super Duty with one, lived with it and the engine’s problems for a little over a year, and then sold it and went right back to the 7.3L. Fifteen years later, Steve—now a ’67-‘79 Ford truck hobbyist well-known for resto-modding High Boy-era trucks and converting them to Power Stroke propulsion and Super Duty running gear—was ready to give the 6.0L a second chance. EVENTS U.C.C. RETURNS TO ITS ROOTS It’s settled. At Ultimate Callout Challenge 2023, the most captivating truck challenge in the land will return to a one-truck, three-event format. After allowing more than one truck per team in 2022, which most competitors took advantage of during the sled pull competition, a single vehicle will have to endure the tortures of the drag strip, dyno, and pulls next year. More than a quarter-century after production ended, old body style Fords remain popular—especially the 7.3L Power Stroke equipped versions offered from ’94.5-’97. But just because OBS fans are holding onto their favorite body style doesn’t mean they aren’t interested in improving a few things or making significant upgrades. Case in point, when the leaf spring solid front axle option gave way to coil springs for 2005 model year Super Duty’s, everyone took note of the improvements in ride quality, strength, and turning radius. Project My2k continues this month with both functionality and cosmetic upgrades all wrapped in one with the addition of a Move Bumper and extra lighting. In previous parts of this build, we’ve focused on many different aspects of the Super Duty platform and that 7.3L Power Stroke under the hood. From the BDS Suspension upgrades to a Bluetop Steering gear to improve the driving feel and stance to adding power through some Edge Products tuning and a higher flowing drop-in turbocharger from KC Turbos. In 1958, International Harvester heralded a big update of the tractor line with the new, restyled hundred series. While there were major advancements in all areas, this evolution was one step forward and two steps back. Arch-nemesis John Deere was also poised for a makeover and when the new six cylinder IH tractors began having final drive failures in job lots, “Big Green” was able to knock IH off it’s top-dog sales pedestal. Among all the new gear that was introduced in ‘58, some of the old workhorses were still available. Among them was the International W-450. Michael Loya of Midland, Texas, is no stranger to impressive diesel SEMA truck builds. This 1993 Dodge is his second. The first was a custom 1997 F250 4x4 known as ‘Wasted Wages’ he showed in 2020. This crazy custom classic Dodge build, nicknamed ‘Bloody Money,’ was assembled in just thirty days leading up to The SEMA Show 2021, after some careful planning and prep, by Loya and Shelton’s Customs in Gardendale, Texas. The highlights are a 1,000+ horsepower 12 valve Cummins, an over the top frame from RYD Motor Sports, and custom touches like an Ostrich trimmed interior. In modern diesel drag racing, there is no shallow end in the talent pool. From bracket and index classes to the Pro Dragster and Pro Mod categories, the list of competent drivers runs deep. Nick Morris is one such competitor. At first glance, Chris Miles’ 6.0L-powered ’03 F-350 looks like it’s been treated to an ‘05 front clip—a common upgrade among early Super Duty owners. But once you get a bit closer it quickly becomes apparent that there is much more at work here.
