Of course, the truck has been given a few custom visual treatments, and the wheels, tires and suspension work are all glaring changes but for the most part, the body, paint and interior are all still in bone stock condition. There’s something to be said for building a truck just the way you want it and just for yourself. Aaron Brose of Chico, California, had always been a fan of drag trucks, especially regular cab shortbeds. There was just one problem. Chevy never made one offered with a diesel engine! As it turns out, that wasn’t a problem if you’re willing to tackle a three-year project like Aaron has done. “When I got my ‘01 Chevy, I already had in mind a low-slung regular cab shortbed drag truck,” says Aaron. While that was fine and dandy, what he had in front of him was a stock-height longbed truck. After the longbed was long gone, the truck was shortened by 14 inches in the middle and 4 additional inches were taken…

This rig has seen some things. A 1970 GMC K15 currently owned by fabricator and YouTuber Wyatt Stengel of Seffner, Florida, the truck has been driven through several generations of Stengels over the years, says Wyatt. “My great uncle bought the truck brand new in 1970,” he says. “It has been passed down through the family.” Most recently, it had a spate of accidents that led it to where it is today: a kick-ass drag truck. “Unfortunately, the last few years it was on the road, it somehow turned into a magnet for ac-cidents,” Wyatt says. “One time while in the mountains hunting, someone came around a blind corner too fast and hit it. Some truck builders are very brand specific when it comes to choosing their projects. Dyed-in-the-wool Chevy and Ford guys will hardly ever stray from their sides, which is fine and good but it’s interesting to see those one-off builds that come around from a builder who just wants to create something simply because it’s different. Adam Spragen of Bellefontaine, Ohio definitely falls into the latter category of custom creatives who don’t care about the badging on the truck they choose to build.
