Unlike many grimly blue-tinged stories of dysfunctional families, The Clancys of Queens (Crown) overflows with buoyant exuberance. Pint-size powerhouse Marley Dias launched #1000blackgirlbooks in late 2015 because she was tired, as she put it, of reading books about white boys and their dogs. Just a few months after she began gathering books with black female protagonists, she’d amassed more than 7,000 of them, which she’s distributed to various schools throughout the U.S. and Jamaica.
