‘FOR A WHILE, I kept textiles separate from my artistic practice,’ remarks Ella Yolande, explaining: ‘I repaired and made my own clothes; I made costumes for other artists; then I realised that I could incorporate these skills into my artwork and I’ve been doing this over the last couple of years, building up self-taught methods that allow me to experiment with textures and techniques.’ Yolande, from Devon but based in London, where she is studying for a master’s in art and ecology at Goldsmiths, University of London, has a multidisciplinary practice. She works in film, 3-D animation, sculpture, text and textiles, with each element supporting others in a holistic way.
