Super nakeds are currently all the rage and there is a huge variety to choose from, each with their own plus and minus points. However, one bike stands out from the crowd, not only due to its engine configuration, but also for its unashamedly brash and bold attitude – the KTM 1290 Super Duke R. Or, as KTM still insists on calling it, The Beast. Unleashed in 2013, the 1290 Super Duke R built on the growing reputation of the 990 Super Duke to create a balls-out super naked that KTM took great pleasure in marketing as, well, a bit of an animal. AKRAPOVIC EXHAUST FOR SUZUKI GSX-8R The new breed of middleweight parallel twin sportsbikes is doing well – and Suzuki's GSX-8R is duking it out at the top, so aftermarket specialists like Akrapovic are offering sweet kit to trick ‘em all up. This full race system fits the GSX-8R, and unlike some competitors, it saves a chunk of mass (3.2kg), while also boosting power and torque nicely (up by 6.4bhp and 4.7Nm peak). With the removable baffle in place, the noise output is a not-horrendous 95.7dB, and with it out, you get a hefty 100.6dB roar. The system is made with stainless headers and a carbon can with titanium end cap, plus a chunky resonator in the link pipe for optimal performance and sound. COLUMNIST We're back in the thick of it with racing, and I couldn't be happier. The last couple of MotoGP races have had me on the edge of my seat, and that would mainly be thanks to the fast new Spaniard on the block, the young rookie-man Pedro – he is spectacular to watch, and even more Marc Marquez-esq than Marc himself (for now, anyway). It's so refreshing to see those bold lunges and sideways action on a big bike once again, and young Pedro seems to be getting away with it for now, which is incredible. Upfront PLANET FAST BIKES – NEW METAL, NEWS & REVIEWS MV Agusta's a bit behind the curve when it comes to hardcore adventure touring machinery: its Turismo Veloce had a bit of an adventure angle, but you'd never take one up a green lane.
