A couple of months back, the Fast Car Entertainment team launched a new show, aptly named the Fast Car Festival. Obviously with such a cool name we decided to support the show and head along to Donington circuit with a stand of our own. The event was all about awesome car displays and track action by day, and chilled out festival vibes by night. It delivered too, boasting a plethora of supercar displays that even housed the super-rare and even more expensive Aston Martin Vulcan. As the track action closed the evening entertainment opened, with highlights including live music from DJ Pied Piper and 90s band Toploader, who had us all dancing in the moonlight (get it? – Jules). There is one huge advantage to the event being held at Silverstone rather than anywhere else – and that’s the famous twisty bit of tarmac that winds all the way around it. Obviously the hallowed circuit wasn’t going to go to waste on this particular Sunday – there was plenty going on to satisfy even the most hardcore motorsport cravings. The Fast and The Furious really does have a lot to answer for. Orange Vectras with full-length JDM decals. Wallies street-racing down high streets. The notion that the way to win a drag race when you’re neck-and-neck with an opponent is just to randomly change gear again (but of course, it’s so obvious!). Edition 38 (E38) – a show that is now famous as being one of the most prestigious VAG-only car shows not only in the UK but internationally. Now in its 16th year and held at the now familiar Overstone Park grounds in Northampton, thousands of people made the journey to attend. With hundreds of cars entering the Show and Shine over the two days – and not just from the UK, with many Dutch, German, Spanish and Belgian cars making the trip over – the standards of the cars on display was, for the most part, exceptional. There’s no doubt that the build has been defined by the wheel fitment, not just because of their 10.5-inches of girth, but because the JR19s have more than a touch of Minilite flavouring to them – a design that is iconic to the classic Mini.
