First up was an appearance at Ford Fair, followed swiftly by a visit to mountune for the awesome M380 upgrade to be fitted. Then it was more shows such as RSOC National Day, before I could get the Pumaspeed/Eibach lowering springs and new Revo RV019 wheels fitted. Since then the RS has been to a few more shows and meets, but I’ve not found the time to make any more upgrades just yet. But don’t worry, I’m not finished yet…

fastford FAST FLEET WENNY/MK3 ESCORT CUT IT OUT! Wenny gets ruthless with grinder, chopping out any rot and replacing it with fresh new steel... The rebuild continues, and now we’re looking at cleaning the floor back to bare metal. Doing so, we came across a few of the usual tell-tale rust spots on the chassis legs that plague many a Sierra and Escort Cosworth. On cutting back the first, outer skin it reveals the infamous water trap that all Cosworths hide. Where the multiple layers of steel meet, water can get trapped in between these layers, it then sweats and causes the floor and chassis legs to start to rust. Obviously, this needed removing and replacing with fresh, solid steel. We tackled the passenger side first, and with both skins…

DECODING TYRE LABELLING AND MARKINGS To assist us in our choice of tyres, for once, EU legislation actually comes to the rescue! From 1st November 2012 tyre-labelling laws came into force, which require all tyres to bear a label similar to that found on domestic white goods, detailing wet grip, fuel efficiency and noise level. Additionally, moulded into the sidewall can be found the American ‘UTQG’ (Uniform Tire Quality Grade) specification too. FUEL EFFICIENCY Rated A – G, best to worst. However, for our purposes this is a difficult property to interpret, as to a large extent rolling resistance equates to grip, hence we might actually regard G as a good thing.
