PRODUCTS NEW STUFF LATEST GEAR ON THE BLUE OVAL SCENE REVO FIESTA & FOCUS REAR TORQUE MOUNT £100 (MK3 FOCUS) £115 (MK7 FIESTA) One area often overlooked when tuning cars, yet makes one of the biggest differences to the driving experience, is engine and torque mounts. When you drive harder – especially if you’ve increased the power and torque outputs – the engine moves around more. The OE mounts tend to be soft and made from rubber, favouring comfort and NVH over performance. This means they can’t control the engine movement efficiently enough during hard acceleration, resulting in axle-hop and ultimately requiring you to lift off the throttle in order to regain traction. MOTORBASE / FOCUS BTCC SEASON OPENER The team get the 2017 season underway with three solid points-scoring finishes… The flag dropped on the 2017 BTCC season at Brands Hatch recently, and a weekend of promise unfortunately didn’t produce the results we had all hoped for. Qualifying didn’t go our way, with two red flag incidents and a heavy downpour playing havoc with all three drivers’ laps – despite looking to be on for a top 5 start! It was one of those sessions where some people were lucky and some were unlucky, purely through the timings of the red flags. Unfortunately for us, we were some of the unlucky ones on this occasion, with Mat Jackson, Martin Depper and Luke Davenport ending the session in P14, P24 and P17. Nonetheless…

BUYER’S GUIDE MK4 ESCORT XR3i Words: Christian Tilbury & Jamie Pics: Chris Wallbank “30years after its launch, the Mk4XR3i is again drawing a loyal following” While other manufacturers were frantically wringing more performance and seat-of-your pants handling out of their hot hatches, Ford adopted a truly softer approach when it came to updating its iconic Escort XR3i in March 1986. Developed by the Ford’s mainstream engineers rather than its performance-led SVE division, the facelifted ’3i not only received the Mk4’s smoother front end, but also a more refined suspension set-up too. With the stronger Mk4 shell adding an extra 100 lbs to the XR3i’s weight, performance was a tad softer, too.
