STROKE OF GENIUS We all know the easy route to getting a 2.3-litre Focus: buy an RS and pray the head gasket stays put. It’s a foolproof approach, there’s no denying that, but it’s expensive and less than individual. If you’re happy to bust your, or your preferred tuner’s, engine building chops, there is another way. It’s called a 2.3-litre stoker kit and it’s available from SiCo Developments. Stroking is one of the oldest tricks in the tuner’s handbook and, at its simplest, involves changing an engine’s crankshaft to force the pistons to move further in the cylinders when the engine is running. The result is an increase in displacement and (hopefully) power without having to alter the block. However, compression jumps up with the increase in swept capacity, which…
