STEP BY STEP GUIDE PAINTING CALIPERS WITH FOLIATEC BRAKE CALLIPER TWO-PART SPRAY Dan gives the Brembos a fresh coat of paint before fitting them, here's how he did it... 1 Our Mk3 RS Brembos were brand new, but if your calipers are still on the car you’ll get the best results by removing them – which involves clamping the brake lines and bleeding the system afterwards. Otherwise, mask the car thoroughly because two-pack paint creates a lot of dust. 2 Remove the original Brembo lettering – a razor-blade scraper works well, but be careful not to gouge the metal underneath. A Ford GT took a podium finish at this year’s running: the Ford Chip Ganassi Racing team had a gruelling race, ultimately finishing in third and seventh places. FAST FORD VERDICT The first thing you notice about Immaculate is just how thick and silky it fells when you apply it to the bodywork. That, and the lovely fruity fragrance. The solution foams-up nicely when you agitate it with a hose, but not so much it’s all bubbles and no shampoo. Get a good handful and, when using a suitable wash mitt, it glides over the panels effortlessly. It feels as if you’re washing over a recently waxed surface – which, obviously we weren’t. Stubborn dirt (and the RS’s famed little black splatters from the exhaust at the back) do require a little more elbow grease but are soon removed with a couple of passes. FORD HEROES ANDY ROUSE This month we salute a man who will be forever linked with Fords and the BTCC, in particular the mighty RS500s Few living legends walk as tall in the Ford scene as Andy Rouse. Hero of Touring Car racing, accomplished engineer, tester, and developer, he has many strings to his bow. In his teens, Rouse built his own specials to compete in autocross, before making the move to Formula Ford; by 1971 he was funding his racing exploits by working as an engineer for iconic tuning outfit Broadspeed.
