When are the coals ready? Don’t cook your food while the coals are still on fire! You want charcoal to burn down to embers before you start grilling—they should be ashed over but glowing. If you see flames, you risk burning your food or cooking it unevenly. Do I really need to soak wooden skewers? Our test kitchen chefs recommend soaking bamboo skewers in water for at least 30 minutes before you use them. when you run a blueberry farm, you have a built-in theme for your dinner parties: blueberries! Jenny and Dave Marrs, hosts of HGTV’s Fixer to Fabulous and owners of The Berry Farm in Bentonville, AR, invited friends and family to a dreamy feast, and the star ingredient popped up everywhere: in cocktails, salad, dessert, and even in the water! (They left the berries off the pizza, understandably.) The party was a celebration of the family’s partnership with Help One Now, an organization that provides farming skills and food for children in Zimbabwe; Jenny and Dave adopted their oldest daughter from Africa.
