Four Part Harmony
Stems is NI’s new track format, launching alongside the D2, and created for use with it, plus the company’s S8 and the F1 controllers.
Effectively an evolution of Traktor’s Remix Sets, Stems see tracks divided into four elements, which instantly load across the D2’s four Remix faders/ pads, allowing each track element to be mixed, EQ’d, manipulated and effected independently.
Stem packs will be available to purchase from retailers including Beatport and Juno, with labels such as Monkeytown, 50 Weapons, Toolroom and Hypercolour on board with the format.
More interestingly, Stems is an open format, with NI set to launch a Stem Creator Tool this summer, allowing producers to easily create packs of their own productions. This is likely to prove popular with producers looking for interesting…
