I hate turkeys. Dead or alive. Iʼve never understood the allure of cooking these vulgar birds for a special occasion as they always turn out dry and tough. Alive, theyʼre even worse. ‘Donʼt follow the herd,ʼ people say but even so, you might find yourself among sheep. My wife, Sarah, and I were surrounded by a bleating cacophony on the west bank of the Breede River mouth. 1978 JURGENS VW AUTOVILLA ‘We bought it from a retired hippie in Richards Bay in 2015. We completely gutted the vehicle, repaired all the rust, changed the outer skins and re-designed the interior to suit our needs. People always come and talk to us. It feels like weʼre in the bowels of the city. Traffic on the multi-lane Settlers Highway drones dully overhead while we dodge taxis in the terminus below it. It seems a little incongruous to be looking for art here. But weʼre not disappointed. On the other side of a metal palisade fence we find the first artwork on Nelson Mandela Bay Metroʼs Route 67 experience.
