Like the rest of South Africa, the Drive & Camp editorial team had to stay at their respective homes from the end of March as part of the national lockdown to try to slow the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Leaders from South Africa’s largest vehicle manufacturers gathered in March to discuss measures to mitigate the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Besides the government closure of the plants, manufacturers expect new vehicle sales to decline over the next decade. Car dealers are worried because of a sharp decline in sales and fears that it will take several years before sales around the world, including in South Africa, return to normal. Due to the mandatory lockdown, new vehicles will henceforth be launched through press releases – until there is certainty that the pandemic has been curbed. But one important aspect of your camping preparation is making sure that at least one person in your group has enough basic first-aid training so you don’t get caught out by an unforeseen mishap. I am not the talkative type at the best of times and even less so when recently sitting in an airport lounge waiting for a flight to Melbourne, Australia. I was happy to oblige, however, when an elderly gentleman spotted my company logo on my shirt and started chatting about four-wheel driving. BILTONG STEAK Coriander delights Crushed coriander seeds on the meat and fresh coriander in the oil doubles the flavour with these steaks. When the government announced all tourism accommodation had to shut their doors for the duration of the national lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social media buzzed on the topic of campsite cancellation policies. SANParks was one of the first institutions to respond to the expected increase in cancellations, and this organisation gets full marks: I was able to cancel my reservation at Satara for the end of April without any hassle. I decided to retain the full credit with them – I’m confident that Satara will reopen later in the year. SANParks also provides for a full refund.
